Djurić: The nuns are stronger than the mindless crowd blocking the monastery entrance

On occasion of besieging the Monastery of the Assumption of Our Lady in Djakovica by Albanians, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djurić, stated that this was not the first time such a thing occurred and that this proved that international forces were not conducting their duties in the best possible manner.

“I wanted to point out to the fact that thousands of armed soldiers, so many members of different missions, they all together – despite seeing that local institutions were not able to protect four nuns, demonstrated that they do not conduct their duties in the best possible manner regarding this concrete case. This was not the first time such a thing occurred. In the past years, Djakovica was completely inaccessible for Serbs. They were prevented from visiting the place that has belonged to them for many generations now”, Djurić stated during his guest appearance at “Pink” television.

Djurić declared that those people who were acting mindlessly, blocking the entrance to the religious object, did not realize that those nuns behind the monastery walls were freer in love and prayer than the ones bound by hatred.

“The thing that I love most about celebrating these holidays in Kosovo and Metohija is seeing our people hold to their customs. They are protecting the tradition, which is important for the salvation of the community. It those things are not protected with utmost care, then we cannot speak about survival”, Djurić said.

The issue of Special Court to be solved by Priština and the international community

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djurić, said today that Serbia was not consulted when the Special Court for KLA War Crimes was being established, and now that a problem arose, it should be resolved by Priština and the international community.

Asked to comment on the attempt to suspend this court in the provincial parliament, Djurić said that Serbia is for the punishment of all criminals, but that the international community entrusted Priština with the establishment of the Special Court.

“If the international community cooperated more with us and extradited the ones we sought after, I am sure that there would be less political and other problems today, and less terrorism”, Djurić said.

He noted that the international community entrusted the establishment of the court to those who the court should try and “it’s amazed now that the same people want to abolish it”.

“Then didn’t call us then, do not call us now when they are disagreeing with the ones with whom they agreed with. Of course, we will always support the prosecution of war crimes and insist on punishing the ones who are responsible”, he explained.

As he said, Hashim Thaci pardoned three former KLA members convicted of killing the Hajra family, and “this is what reflects the state of consciousness today”.

“They sent a strong message that crimes against Serbs are not punished. This hurts me and it is not human that no one from the international community reacts to such a thing”, Djurić concluded.
